Carlos Bessa is a biologist with a PhD in biomedical sciences. His is currently working in using the nematode C. elegans to study genes involved in neurodevelopment, with the goal to understand the mechanisms/pathways that may lead to disease in humans. During his PhD, his studies focused on a rare group of neurodegenerative disorders, Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis, from a cell/molecular biology approach, looking at the mechanisms and effects of human mutations at a celular level.
