Mónica Morais is graduated in Genetic and Biotechnology by the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. Subsequently, she developed her master thesis in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto in the area of CFTR mutations in infertility patients under the supervision of Professor Mário Sousa (ICBAS/FMUP).

Mónica started her research work in the Neurocience Domain of ICVS in February 2010. During this time she has been involved in different projects addressing distinct aspects of the Neurobiology of Depression.

She is currently a PhD student in ICVS (under the supervision of João Bessa, MD PhD and Nuno Sousa, MD PhD) and the main focus of her research is study the impactof antipsychotic drugs in neuroplasticity.
