DESCRIPTION:Next Monday at 1 pm\, don’t miss Catarina Barbosa-Matos “Immunoregulatory role of c-MET in pulmonary disease” at the A0.03 auditorium in UMinho’s School of Medicine. \nCatarina Barbosa-Matos completed her Master’s degree in Health Sciences at the School of Medicine\, University of Minho\, in 2018. Catarina is finishing her PhD in Health Sciences at the ICVS/School of Medicine\, University of Minho\, supervised by Dr. Sandra Costa and Dr. Cristina Cunha. Her main interests are in the study of pulmonary immunity\, particularly in pulmonary fibrosis and aspergillosis. During her PhD\, Catarina focused on the role of the tyrosine kinase receptor c-MET in the pulmonary immune response.

SUMMARY:Basic Laparoscopy for Residents
DESCRIPTION:Registration/applications are now open for the Short Course in Minimally Invasive Surgery organized by the Laboratory of Surgical Science (School of Medicine\, University of Minho)! The hands-on sessions will take place on the 13th\, 14th and 15th of May!! \nThe classic “Basic Laparoscopy for Residents” this year has a new format. Funded by the PRR\, it is a unique opportunity for basic training in minimally invasive surgery with the quality already known\, with a renowned Faculty and with unique conditions! \nThe total price of the course is €250 BUT all registered students will receive a Merit Scholarship\, under the following conditions:\n• the top 20% of students will receive a scholarship worth the TOTAL value of the registration fee (100%\, FREE final value);\n• the next 30% best students will receive a scholarship of 75% of the registration fee (final value €62.5);\n• the remaining 50% will receive a grant of 50% of the registration fee (final value €125); \nThe format will be hybrid\, with independent study sessions (to be held\, at any time\, until June 14th)\, combined with hands-on laboratory sessions (taking place between May 13th and 15th – total of 20 hours of practical contact intensive). \nAttention: limited to 20 vacancies!! \nRegistration and more information (namely brochure with information from the faculty and topics to be covered\, study plan and eligibility criteria) at the following link: \n  \nhttps://www.alianca.uminho.pt/pt/Portfolio/SaudeBemEstar/Paginas/ Practical-Course-Fundamentals-Minimally-Invasive-Surgery.aspx

Currently\, she is enrolled in the Health Sciences PhD program\, under the supervision of Professor João Bessa and Dr. Maria Picó Pérez. Her main research focus on the neural correlates of suicidal thoughts and behaviors in major depression\, using multimodal magnetic resonance imaging.

In 2017\, he went to New York (United States) where\, for 5 years\, he performed his postdoctoral studies at Columbia University and at the NYU / New York University. Last year\, he returned to the ICVS as a Junior Researcher.

DESCRIPTION:Next Monday at 1 pm\, don’t miss Vitória da Cunha Baptista “Hemozoin: dissection of its characteristics for non-invasive malaria diagnosis and its biological pathway towards enhanced therapies” at the A0.03 auditorium in UMinho’s School of Medicine. \n  \nVitória Baptista holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and a Master’s degree in Applied Biochemistry\, both from the University of Minho\, Portugal. With a strong background in malaria related studies\, she has dedicated five years to conducting research in this field. Currently\, Vitória is in the final stages of completing her PhD\, which involved collaborative studies between the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS) under the guidance of Maria Isabel Veiga and the Center of Microelectromechanical Systems (CMEMS-Uminho) under the guidance of Susana Catarino\, with a short-research stay at Liliana Mâncio’s Lab at Institut Pasteur\, France. Currently\, she is doing research at the University of Coruña (Spain) under the guidance of Ángel Vázquez supported by an EMBO Scientific Exchange Grant. Her presentation will encompass part of the studies developed during her doctoral studies.
