António Salgado, Bruno Costa and Nuno Sousa among the most cited scientists in the world

The ICVS researchers are part of 65 UMinho scientists who are in the 2% most cited in the world over the last year, according to a study by Stanford University (USA) and the Elsevier editorial group.

The list, called “World’s Top 2% Scientists 2023”, includes 210 thousand scientists, 790 of which are linked to institutions in Portugal. UMinho appears with 16 units represented and eight more researchers compared to 2022, with its first scientist on the global list being Fernando Pacheco-Torgal (6809th place).

The document presents the best researchers on the planet in 22 areas and 174 disciplines, considering their index, the volume of publications and citations of their work, according to data from the Scopus database until September 2023. This annual list appeared in 2019, with the objective of creating a public repository on the impact and influence of researchers on the progress of scientific knowledge and to combat abuses of self-citation.
