The ICVS researchers are part of 66 UMinho scientists who are in the 2% most cited in the world over the last year, according to a study by Stanford University (USA) and the Elsevier editorial group.

The list, called “World’s Top 2% Scientists 2024”, includes 223 thousand scientists, 889 of which are linked to institutions in Portugal. UMinho appears with 18 units represented and two more researchers compared to 2023, with its first scientist on the global list being Paulo Lourenço (6104th place).

The document presents the best researchers on the planet in 22 areas and 174 disciplines, considering their index, the volume of publications and citations of their work, according to data from the Scopus database until August 2024. This annual list appeared in 2019, with the objective of creating a public repository on the impact and influence of researchers on the progress of scientific knowledge and to combat abuses of self-citation.
