ICVS Seminar “Smart Assistant for Laparoscopic Surgeries: Surgical Instrument Segmentation”
December 2 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Next Monday at 1 pm, don’t miss Marcos Fernández-Rodríguez “Smart Assistant for Laparoscopic Surgeries: Surgical Instrument Segmentation” at the A0.03 auditorium in UMinho’s School of Medicine.
Marcos Fernández-Rodríguez is a PhD student in Health Sciences at the School of Medicine, University of Minho (UM, Portugal) since 2021, with a strong background in engineering. His research focuses on surgical instrument segmentation, applying artificial intelligence to advance minimally invasive surgery support systems. By developing robust deep learning models for precise instrument identification, he aims to help creating technologies that can recognize and analyze complex surgical environments. He graduated in Industrial Electronics Engineering in 2012 and earned his MSc in Biomedical Engineering in 2015 from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV, Spain). During his MSc project in 2014, he developed a surgical tool for brain tumor removal that led to a patent. In 2017, he collaborated on neuroscience projects at the Neuroscience Institute of Alicante, working on image processing and robotics. In 2019, he joined ICVS to work with the neuroimaging team.
