ICVS took part in the second edition of the Alto Minho Science Fest 2026, held from March 12 to 15 in Arcos de Valdevez, bringing science closer to the community through a dynamic programme of interactive activities focused on the brain, health, and well-being.
Over the course of the festival, dozens of ICVS researchers were actively involved in a wide range of hands-on workshops designed to engage children, young students, and families. The activities attracted hundreds of participants, who enthusiastically explored the fascinating world of neuroscience through practical experiments, creative challenges, and direct interaction with scientists.

Among the workshops presented were initiatives such as “Brain in the Lab: The Science of Neural Signals”, where participants discovered how nerve signals work through simple experimental demonstrations, and “NeuroKids: Draw, Shape and Imagine”, an activity designed to spark curiosity and creativity while introducing younger audiences to the structure and function of the brain.
Throughout the event, the ICVS space welcomed a steady flow of visitors eager to learn more about the brain and scientific research. From curious questions to lively discussions and creative exploration, the workshops provided an engaging environment where science could be experienced first-hand.
The strong public participation and enthusiasm highlighted the importance of initiatives like the Alto Minho Science Fest in promoting scientific literacy and inspiring the next generation of scientists. For ICVS researchers, the event was also an opportunity to strengthen connections with the community and showcase how research carried out at the institute contributes to advancing knowledge in brain and health sciences.
The presence of ICVS and the School of Medicine at the festival once again demonstrated their commitment to science outreach, making research accessible, interactive, and inspiring for audiences of all ages.
