ICVS Retreat 2025: A Celebration of Science, Collaboration, and Community

The ICVS Retreat 2025 took place on June 26 and 27, bringing together over 200 participants for two days of dynamic discussions, inspiring talks, and community building.

The retreat opened with a warm welcome from ICVS Director Patrícia Maciel, followed by active working group sessions on key internal topics such as communication, lab management, and onboarding/outboarding, setting the tone for meaningful reflection and improvement.

The scientific program was a major highlight, featuring two outstanding plenary sessions; Jacques Pouysségur shared insights into Hypoxic Glycolysis and its role in cancer and immunity and Mercè Pallàs explored innovations in Alzheimer’s treatment.

The flash presentation sessions showcased cutting-edge research from ICVS teams, spanning neuroscience, cancer biology, immunology, and medical imaging. Poster sessions and group discussions encouraged networking and generated valuable ideas for stronger internal and external collaborations.

The event wrapped up with prize announcements for best flash presentation (Jorge Fernandes), best poster (Tiago Pereira and Marcela Oliveira) and the announcement of the ICVS Science Photo Contest 2025 winner: Inês Pereira. A perfect ending to a retreat filled with enthusiasm, energy, and a shared sense of purpose.

We thank all participants and organizers for making this retreat a success.
