ICVS researcher Joana Silva was distinguished with the Career Developmental Grant 2024 from the International Society for Neurochemistry (ISN). The award was officially given in June 2025.
This competitive grant supports early-career researchers in neurochemistry as they move toward independent research. Joana Silva was awarded this grant to develop her work on the TIA-1 protein and its role in neuronal and synaptic physiology. TIA-1 is a RNA-binding protein essential for the control of Stress Granules, cellular structures needed for managing stress response and implicated in mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease.
“Receiving this grant is a milestone in my scientific journey. This funding will enable me to explore further my research on the physiological function of TIA-1 and explore new ways that will bring effective knowledge in the field,” Silva said.
