The Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS), R&D Unit of the School of Medicine of the University of Minho, announces the award of 1 (one) Laboratory Technician position in a contract of uncertain duration

The Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS), R&D Unit of the School of Medicine of the University of Minho, announces the award of 1 (one) Laboratory Technician position in a contract of uncertain duration to carry out the following functions:

• Perform molecular biology techniques including extraction, purification, and quantification of nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) from human, animal, or cell samples.

• Prepare and conduct gene amplification reactions (PCR, qPCR, RT‑qPCR), including primer and probe design and assay optimization.

• Perform genotyping analysis using various methodologies (conventional PCR, real‑time PCR), including interpretation and documentation of genetic profiles.

• Apply complementary techniques such as electrophoresis, enzymatic digestion, cloning, DNA fragment purification, and gene expression analysis.

• Collaborate in the implementation of high‑throughput technologies, such as digital PCR or spatial phenotyping, when applicable.

• Validate genetic profile of cell lines.

• Maintain accurate records laboratory procedures and organize of experimental databases, ensuring full traceability of results.

• Assist in the preparation of technical reports and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

• Ensure compliance with biosafety standards and good laboratory practices, with particular attention to the handling biological samples.

• Operate, maintain, and calibrate molecular biology equipment, such as thermocyclers, spectrophotometers, electrophoresis systems, and automated platforms.

• Manage stocks of reagents, primers, probes, enzymes, and specialized consumables; 

• Provide specialized technical support and consulting in molecular biology protocols, including validation, optimization, and troubleshooting of genotyping and genetic analysis techniques.
