Andreia Monteiro has been a Fellowship Researcher in the ReNEU team at the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS) – University of Minho since 2021. She completed her master’s in Biochemistry in 2020 at the Faculty of Sciences and School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University of Porto. Her M. Sc work focused on the role of adenosine A2A receptors in invasive group B Streptococcus disease in newborns and in establishing an invasive GBS model in elderly mice. Her scientific training also involves a 4-month voluntary work at the former laboratory of Sandra Costa at the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS)- University of Minho. There, she learned how lung macrophages could mediate lung differentiation and regeneration in acute lung injury and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Her research interests are focused on 1) understanding how biological sex affects the immune response to CNS injury and repair, 2) identification of immunomodulatory targets and validating them in translational/clinical studies, and 3) development of combinatory approaches for CNS protection and regeneration.
