Diogo J. Santos

  • Mesenchymal Stem Cells
  • Targeted delivery
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Protein Engineering

Diogo Santos completed the Integrated Master’s in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Minho in 2021. His main research interests are in the field of central nervous system regenerative medicine, specifically in studying the impact of stem cell secretome in spinal cord injury. Over the last years he has gained experience with cell culture, secretome proteomic analysis, in vitro and in vivo models of central nervous system trauma, immunohistochemistry, protein engineering and microscopy. He has published 6 articles in peer reviewed journals, presented 4 oral communications and has been part of the organizing committee of the 12th International Meeting of the Portuguese Society of Stem Cells and Cell Therapies. He is currently a PhD student at ICVS where he is trying to increase the targeting of vesicles present in the secretome of mesenchymal stem cells towards the spinal cord injury site by engineering specific molecules present in the vesicle membranes, with the aim of increasing their therapeutic impact.
