ICVS researcher Miguel Quintas Neves has received the award for best scientific work of the year by the European Society of Neuroradiology (ESNR), on 21.09.2023 (World Alzheimer’s Disease Day), in Vienna, Austria, during the Society’s annual congress.
“Divergent magnetic resonance imaging atrophy patterns in Alzheimer’s disease and primary age-related tauopathy” is the title of the award-winning work, whose main objective is to find diagnostic tools that allow the distinction between Alzheimer’s disease and another neuropathological condition, primary age-related tauopathy. The results obtained suggest different patterns of brain atrophy between these two groups of patients, and a different relationship between these patterns and the associated cognitive performance.
Miguel Quintas Neves, a PhD student supervised by Tiago Gil Oliveira at the University of Minho’s School of Medicine, and member of the research team “Mechanisms of Memory and Alzheimer’s Disease Pathogenesis” at ICVS, became the first Portuguese to receive this distinction, awarded by ESNR since 2005 to young scientists under 40 years old who work in the area of Neuroradiology in a European center, who hold 1st authorship on an original scientific work.
