Patrícia Maciel is the new Director of ICVS

Researcher Patrícia Maciel, from the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS) of the School of Medicine of the University of Minho (EMUM), was elected director as a result of the vote held on 26 January. Patrícia Maciel succeeds Professor Jorge Correia Pinto in the position, with a four-year term and will be accompanied by Fátima Baltazar and Agostinho Carvalho as Vice-Directors.

The inauguration ceremony took place on February 3, at 3 pm, in the Zulmira Simões auditorium of EMUM, on the Gualtar campus, in Braga. The session also presented the new logo and portal for ICVS, an entity celebrating its 20th anniversary.

The event featured interventions by the president of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), Madalena Alves, the vice-rector of UMinho for Research and Innovation, Eugénio Campos Ferreira, and the president of EMUM, Jorge Correia Pinto, among others.

At UMinho for two decades, Patrícia Maciel is an associate professor at EMUM, director of the Master’s in Health Sciences and principal investigator at ICVS, where she leads the research team in Translational Neurogenetics. Her work focuses on discovering molecular mechanisms and therapeutics for neurological diseases.
