Gonçalo Martins Ferreira

  • Adult Brain Plasticity
  • Cytogenesis
  • Astrogliogenesis
  • Hippocampus
  • Depression
  • Behavior

Gonçalo completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry in 2021 at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra. During his degree, he did an internship at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology of the University of Coimbra (CNC), developing his work on the role of microglia in the myelination and remyelination and the impact of the MSUS protocol on myelination, under the supervision of Dr. Ana Luísa Cardoso and Dr. João Peça. From 2019 to 2020, Gonçalo was an ambassador for innovation and entrepreneurship at the University of Coimbra, developing notable work in the promotion and enhancement of Science. In 2023, he completed his Master’s Degree in Biomedical Research, with specialization in Neurosciences, at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra. Under the scope of his Degree, he worked in the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS), under the supervision of Dr. Luisa Pinto and Dr. Catarina Gomes, unveiling the role of adult hippocampal cytogenesis on brain physiology and behavior. Since 2024, Gonçalo has been a Research Fellow at the ICVS, focusing on understanding the role of hippocampal connectivity, particularly adult astrogliogenesis on neurophysiology and behavior in health and depression, under the scope of Dr. Luisa Pinto.
