Henrique Prata Ribeiro studied Medicine in Coimbra, where he also played rugby for AAC. In 2015, he began his Psychiatry residency at Hospital Júlio de Matos (CHPL) in Lisbon and joined CDUL’s rugby team. During his training, he established Portugal’s first consultation for domestic violence victims with APAV (2015), co-edited Urgências Psiquiátricas (2018), Step-by-Step Psiquiatria (2023), and Dormir é Fácil (2024), and participated in Health Parliament Portugal (2020). He actively advocated for psychiatric patients’ rights, addressing excessive restrictions during involuntary hospitalizations and promoting free access to advanced antipsychotic medications. He also lectured in Psychiatry at the University of Lisbon. After completing his residency in 2020, he joined the Psychiatry Department at Hospital Beatriz Ângelo, the Monsanto Prison, and PIN. He later transitioned to the faculty at Católica Medical School and collaborated with the Ombudsman’s Prevention of Torture Mechanism (2019-2020). He led Portugal’s first study on the psychological impact of COVID-19 and implemented key measures of the Azores Mental Health Program. He has published scientific articles and book chapters and spoken at national and international conferences. As a columnist for Comunidade Cultura e Arte, he is a public advocate for Psychiatry and patients’ rights. He conducted the first study in Portugal to collect data on the psychological impact of COVID-19 and led the implementation of the initial measures of the Azores Mental Health Program through the coordination of the Azores Mental Health Structure. Beyond these contributions, he has authored several national and international publications, including scientific articles and book chapters, and has participated as a speaker in multiple scientific events at both national and international levels. He is also a columnist for Comunidade Cultura e Arte and an active public advocate for medical information in Psychiatry and patients’ rights.
