I am a PhD candidate at the University of MInho. I obtained a Bachelor Degree (BSc) in Applied Biology (School of Sciences, University of Minho) in 2019, followed by a Master Degree (MSc) in Molecular Genetics (School of Sciences, University of Minho) in 2022. My MSc thesis, supervised by Prof. Tiago Gil Oliveira and Prof. Sandra Paiva, focused on the use of the yeast model organism (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) to study two lipid-modulating enzymes – phospholipase D1 and phospholipase D2 – in the context of Alzheimer’s Disease. Following the end of my MSc I performed a brief (3-month) research internship at the lab of Prof. Roland Brandt (University of Osnabruck, Germany), studying Tau – lipid interactions. My PhD work will focus on the role of phosphatidic acid in the pathogenesis of Apolipoprotein E4.
