Joana Silva

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Biology from the University of Minho, and I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Biomedicine at the same institution. I am involved in a research project at ICVS under the supervision of João Canto-Gomes and Claudia Nobrega, focusing on the repertoire of HLA-A2-restricted CD8⁺ T cells specific to the Epstein-Barr Virus in patients with Multiple Sclerosis. My primary scientific interests lie in immunology, particularly within the context of immune-mediated neurological diseases.

REVERT-MS – Studying the Repertoire of Epstein-Barr Virus-specific HLA-E-Restricted CD8+ T-cells in Multiple Sclerosis

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection is a major risk factor for developing multiple sclerosis (MS). In this study, we will investigate, in people with MS, a specific type of immune cell called CD8+ T lymphocytes, which are essential for controlling viral infections, including EBV.

Unravelling T-Cell Dysfunction in Multiple Sclerosis: Can Plasma Hold the Key?

This project builds on previous findings from my group that newly diagnosed, treatment-naive people with multiple sclerosis have fewer memory T cells compared to age- and sex-matched healthy controls.
