João Mendes Coelho (MD) is an early-career psychiatrist with competence in Clinical Addictology. He is currently a 2nd-year PhD candidate and researcher at the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS), School of Medicine, University of Minho, working from the Azorean island of São Miguel. His research interests focus on stimulant use disorders, particularly synthetic cathinones and their neuropsychological and psychiatric consequences, including suicidality and cognitive impairment. João serves on the board of the Portuguese Society of Suicidology and the Portuguese Society of Dual Disorders and is also a member of the Azorean Taskforce dedicated to addressing new psychoactive substances.
