Luísa Ferraz

  • Psilocybin
  • Optogenetics
  • Neurogenesis
  • Brain plasticity
  • Depression
  • Stress

Luísa finished her Bsc degree in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences in 2022, with a license in Clinical Analysis and Public Health and also Pathology, Cytology and Thanatology. In the same year, she entered the MSc in Health Sciences program at University of Minho, where she performed an internship under the supervision of Dr. Luísa Pinto, focused on understanding the role of cytogenesis on brain physiology and behavior. Then she continued for another 2 years in the group, for the development of her master thesis , entitled “Impact of modulating hippocampal dentate gyrus adult-born cells in the context of depression and Psilocybin treatment”. With this project, they aim to unravel the contribution of DG adult-born cells for neurophysiology and behavioral domains impaired in depressive-like animal models, possibly helping to find alternative routes for the development of better therapies for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).
