Plácida Maholela is pursuing a PhD in Biomedicine and Health Sciences at the University of Minho, Portugal (2024 – 2028). She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine from Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique (2011 – 2017), completing the dissertation “Microbiological Evaluation of the Addition of Brine in Chicken Carcasses Produced in Maputo.”
Since 2017, Plácida has been a researcher at Mozambique’s National Institute of Health, focusing on zoonotic diseases and the environmental and entomological determinants of disease transmission in urban areas. Her interdisciplinary work addresses major public-health challenges, including occupational zoonoses, SARS-CoV-2 epidemiology among children and households, and factors driving urban chikungunya transmission.
