Sarai Isabel Machado is PhD student in Health Sciences at Life and Health Sciences Research Institute, School of Medicine, University of Minho, since 2021. As part of the IodineMinho team, she focus her studies focus on the determinants of iodine intake and status, generating evidence for the development of structured public health measures.

She is a registered nutritionist, MSc in Clinical Nutrition in 2020 (Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences, University of Porto). For her master thesis she evaluated eating behavior of children with failure to thrive, representing a unique opportunity to learn how to design and to implement a project, the hurdles, and challenges of research with potential impact on behavior change.

BSc in Nutritional Sciences in 2018 (Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences, University of Porto). Performed her curricular internship at São João University Hospital Centre, and her professional internship in the Maternal-Paediatric Centre, at the same Hospital, developing work on dietary and nutritional interventions on children with obesity, failure to thrive, endocrine disorders, inherited diseases of metabolism and other pathologies.
