Sónia Celeiro completed her MSc degree in Health Sciences in 2018 (School of Medicine/ University of Minho) and has a BSc degree in Biology-Geology (School of Sciences/ University of Minho) completed in 2016. In 2017 started her master thesis with the title: “Study of functional role and therapeutic influence of the tumor suppressor gene SPINT2 in Melanoma”, supervised by Marta Viana-Pereira and Rui Manuel Reis. In 2019, was awarded by Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro through the Portugal national contest: “Bolsa da Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro/ Fundação PT (2018)” with the scientific project: “Therapeutic relevance of the tumor suppressor gene SPINT2 in Melanoma”. Currently is doing his PhD in Health Sciences, granted by a fellowship from FCT, with the title: “Deciphering the role of the serine protease inhibitor SPINT2 managing melanoma tumorigenesis and therapeutic response” in ICVS/School of Medicine (University of Minho, Braga, Portugal) and Hospital Bambino Gesu – Department of Haemato-Oncology, Cell and Gene Therapy (Rome, Italy) (Supervisors: Marta Viana-Pereira, Maria Vinci, Fátima Baltazar). Is involved in other projects entitled: “Assessing the Antitumoral Activity of Portuguese Propolis Fractions in Melanoma” and “Study of the anticancer effect of 3-Bromopyruvate (3-BrPa) in animal model systems of leukemia” (Research grant, 2020). Her research focus is mainly related to cancer biomarkers and therapeutics, mainly on Melanoma. Additionally, her scientific interest also involves the use and development of 3D cell culture models for in vitro study of tumor pathophysiology.
