Understanding how to improve prevention of Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection in young Portuguese Men who have Sex with Men

To reduce HIV transmission among young MSM we need to fully understand the representations, attitudes and behaviors that explain the observed lack of adherence to safer sex strategies. To do so we will in-depth interview young MSM and carry out a content analysis of the collected information. The option for this qualitative research approach has advantages over a quantitative one as it allows a deeper understanding of human thinking and behavior in a specific social context, which is essential to define new strategies, adapted to this population, that may promote behavioral changes and ultimately reduce the incidence of new infections.
