About

Nuno Dinis Alves (PhD) is a research fellow at the Neuroscience Research Domain in the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS), School of Medicine, University of Minho (Portugal).

He is graduated in Biochemistry (2009) by the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD, Vila Real) and Master in Cellular and Molecular Biology (2011) by the University of Coimbra. Nuno performed his master thesis in the department of Neuroscience of the Janssen Pharmaceutica (Johnson & Johnson Company), at Beerse (Belgium), under the supervision of Dr. Greet Vanhoof and Dr. Rony Nuydens. Then he moved to the ICVS, where he performed his doctoral studies, under the supervision of Dr. Luísa Pinto and Prof. Nuno Sousa. During his PhD, he was focus on understand the involvement of adult neuroplastic mechanisms in the ethiopathogenesis and treatment of stress-related disorders, such as depression.

Currently, as research fellow, Nuno is investigating the profile of epigenetic alterations in the process of adult hippocampal neurogenesis in the context of depression.

Nuno is now member of the Junior Members Advisory Panel (JMAP) of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP).
