Ana Oliveira holds a B.Sc. in Applied Biology from the University of Minho. She is currently in the second year of her Master’s degree in Biomedicine at the same University, developing her dissertation work at the Institute for Life and Health Sciences (ICVS), University of Minho, as part of the Translational Neurogenetics team. She is supervised by Dr. Sara Duarte Silva and Prof. Patrícia Maciel. Her research focuses on investigating the mechanisms underlying somatic instability of CAG repeat expansions in Machado-Joseph disease (SCA3), with particular interest in the role of the mismatch repair protein MSH3. The project aims to evaluate whether modulation of MSH3 can reduce somatic CAG repeat expansion and assess its potential as a therapeutic target for SCA3.
