Exploiting novel oncogenic players in glioblastoma
Of all brain tumors, glioblastoma (GBM) is particularly devastating, being the most common and most malignant type. Using a wide panoply of biological samples, ranging from…
Joana M. Ferreira (JF) is a MSc student in Health Sciences at the School of Medicine of the University of Minho. She has completed her BSc in Biochemistry in the same institution and her first year of the MSc, in which she was introduced to a wide array of research fields, including oncology, neurosciences, immunology, genetics, and biostatistics. Moreover, having concluded a laboratory animal science course (and being now authorized by the national agency Direção Geral de Alimentação e Veterinária to work with animals for scientific purposes). Currently, JF is beginning her master project in neuro-oncology (in the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS)), under the guidance of Céline S. Gonçalves and Bruno M. Costa, which aims to study the functional effects of WNT6-driven chemotherapy resistance in human glioblastoma as well as seeking to define the molecular mechanisms that may underlie it.
JF was recently selected to present her work at the Astrazeneca Innovate Competition (in the context of the iMed conference 14.0; Lisbon, 2022), having been awarded with the best oral presentation award.
