  • Medical Image Processing
  • Deep Learning
  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Artificial Intelligence

Marcos Fernández-Rodríguez is a PhD student in Health Sciences at the School of Medicine, University of Minho (UM, Portugal) since 2021. He graduated in Industrial Electronics Engineering (2012) and obtained his MSc in Biomedical Engineering (2015) by the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV, Spain). During the MSc’s project (2014), he received a grant from the “Hospital la Fe” of Valencia (Spain) for developing a surgical tool for brain tumour removal, involving the development of a graphical user interface software, an Arduino device and real-time image processing which led to 1 patent. Later on, Marcos collaborated in two different projects (2017) in Neuroscience Institute of Alicante, with the CSIC (Superior Council of Scientific Investigations, Spain) and University Miguel Hernández (UMH, Spain). The first involved analysing mice movements with image processing, and the other, developing a Braitenberg vehicle. In 2019, Marcos moved to ICVS to work with the neuroimaging team, in a project involving neurofeedback, functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Electroencephalography. Currently, he is developing his PhD in Health Sciences at the ICVS, related to artificial intelligence applied to laparoscopic surgeries, in collaboration with the 2AI research center (IPCA, Barcelos, Portugal).
