ICVS is a contributing partner in the launch of GALActIC, a pioneering European Union research project aimed at tackling Influenza-associated Pulmonary Aspergillosis (IAPA). ICVS researcher Tiago Gil Oliveira has been awarded the 2024 BIAL Clinical Medicine Award for his groundbreaking work in Alzheimer’s disease research. His project, titled “Unveiling the Mysteries of the Brain’s Regional Susceptibility to Neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s Disease: From Neuropathology to Brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging,” identifies the specific regions of the brain most affected by Alzheimer’s, offering hope for earlier diagnosis and more effective treatments.

Three researchers from ICVS were awarded funding by “Fundação Bial” of €60,000 each to carry out their research projects in neuroscience. The financial support will fund projects investigating the role of neural circuits in learning, memory, and cognitive flexibility, with a total funding amount of approximately €180,000.
