Start-up Karion Therapeutics, funded by ICVS researcher’s Marta Costa and Fátima Baltazar, dedicated to an innovative treatment for aggressive cancers, is the winner of the Arqus International Innovators Award.

The ICVS Summer Retreat 2023 took place between the 28th and 29th of June at the Monastery of Tibães, where around 150 participants debated the future of the ICVS

ICVS researcher Nuno Silva saw his project “Activated Macrophages and Spinal Cord Injury Repair: The Secretome Effect” awarded 200,000 euros by the Wings for Life Foundation.

ICVS´s researcher Sara Calafate saw her work on Alzheimer’s disease recognized and published in Nature Neuroscience. Sara Calafate, Joris de Wit and Bart de Strooper at the VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research, co-led a project that involved the lab of Tiago Gil Oliveira at ICVS, and investigated an interesting phenomenon in a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease.

According to the most recent edition of the Research.com rankings, which annually classify the best and most influential scientists in the world in their respective areas, ICVS researchers Nuno Sousa and João Cerqueira are in the top ten national list of most cited researchers in the field of Neurosciences.

The ICVS researcher was elected President of the Portuguese Society of Neurosciences (SPN) for the next four-year period from 2023 to 2027. Tiago Gil Oliveira is joined on the board by Sara Xapelli as vice-president, Clévio Nóbrega as secretary, João Peça as treasurer and Teresa Summavielle as voter.
